Albion and The First World War
Shortly after Britain went to war in August 1914, the players of Brighton& Hove albion FC reported to the Goldstone Ground for pre-season training. The 1915/15 season, the most controversial soccer campaign in history, went ahead, but soon the players were training not as footballers but as soldiers.
This work examines that controversy in the context of the Albion and the towns of Brighton and Hove. It explains what the war held for the players and staff, and for some of the thousands of supporters for whom following the club was a way of life.
